About Llanfair Caereinion
Llanfair Caereinion is a little town and community in Montgomeryshire, Powys, Wales on the River Banwy (also known as the River Einion), around 8 miles west of Welshpool. Its publish is a immersion of Welsh llan “church” + Mair “Mary” and caer “fort” + Einion, a personal name, meaning “the church of Mary the fort of Einion”.
In 2011 the ward had a population of 1,810. The town is built on the site of an outmoded Roman fort. Llanfair is most well-known for being a terminus of the Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway. The site of the Battle of Maes Moydog is nearby.
In 1758 the town was in this area completely wiped out by the Great Fire which was consequently intense and devastating it was reported in the London Press.
In 2011 the village itself had a population of 1,055, according to Nomis.
