About Watlington
Watlington is a civil parish and electoral ward in the English county of Norfolk.
It covers an Place of 6.93 km2 (2.68 sq mi) and had a population of 2,031 in 852 households at the 2001 census, the population increasing to 2,455 at the 2011 Census.
For the purposes of local government, it falls within the district of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk.[citation needed]
The villages proclaim means ‘farm/settlement of Hwaetel’s/Wacol’s people’ or perhaps, ‘farm/settlement at Wateling (= Wattle/thatching place)’.
It is situated some 1.2Â mi (1.9Â km) from the east bank of the River Great Ouse, 7.5Â mi (12.1Â km) south of the town of King’s Lynn and 37Â mi (60Â km) west of the city of Norwich.
The village is directly served by Watlington railway station (on the Fen Line in the company of Cambridge and King’s Lynn) which is situated 0.62Â mi (1.00Â km) from the middle of the village. Amenities in the village count up a public house, Post Office and medical centre with pharmacy. There is with a sports and social club, village hall and church to the north east of the village.
A small nature reserve named ‘Watatunga’ opened to visitors in July 2020, offering guided buggy tours amongst ‘170 acres of woodland, grassland and lakes’. This occupies a Big area directly situated amongst Watlington and the genial A10 trunk road.
